It would have been a design crime to ignore this terrific photo of the Living room by Skye Kirby Westcott and Angela Camarda for Lillian August. This was part of the completed design for the 2011 Hampton Designer Showhouse. Photo from the Traditional Home facebook photo gallery.

Sneek Peek: Pearson's Mod New Sofa

2408-2 sofa-2

prepare to change your mind about Pearson's "traditional" styling. Slowly but surely modern pieces are sliding into the lineup. We like to see these silhouettes as timeless, but it's hard to deny how fabulous this new sofa silhouette would look alongside Eames and Van der Rohe chairs. Yes, I'd say she features a retro modern shape that will make a statement in a room.

The new 2408-2 sofa, which will debut at High Point Market in October, features retro styling, overscaled arms and short wide shaped feet. This bossy, sleek style features two boxed back pillows raised over two boxed seat cushions. The base measures 86" long, 38" deep, 36" tall and includes a pair 20” throw pillows. We can't wait to see how imaginative designers customize this swanky piece!

Pearson Furniture at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week

That's right. Pearson may not be stomping the runway in Lincoln Center with Jessica Stam, but select pieces from the current collection will be making an appearance at next week's Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. The swanky, tufted 220 chair in our glamorous velvet 6515-11 and a lucky pair of our 9667 occasional tables (perfect for holding cocktails and gift bags) will be featured in the Star Lounge as envisioned by design superstar Wesley Cadle. He was given the honor of reinventing the space inspired by New York City’s classic yet timeless style. Last year, some of you might recall Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams were given the opportunity).

Wesley is all about tone, timbre, purpose and impact. His vision for this year's Star Lounge:

"His take on the Mercedes-Benz Star Lounge brings in Christian LaCroix’s Arles collection for the windows and over-scaled fashion illustrations by Gladys Perint Palmer, against a palette of pale celadon tones, amethyst and violet, highlighted by high gloss white delineations. New York’s elegant past reflects on the organic forms and innovation of today."

For those who scored seats (or at least standing room only invites) for the shows I highly recommend you read DKNY PR Girl's guide to surviving Fashion Week.

And if any of you take snaps of the Star Lounge, we'd love to see them! {Source: see the press sheet here}

European Style... Close to Home

Euro

Metrosource NY just featured Pearson in an article on Euro style. Those seeking vintage European styles need not pull out their passports. Pearson and our sister company Maitland-Smith were commended for their heirloom quality and old-school craftsmanship techniques.

We can customize or create any piece to suit your needs. Finishes, fabrics, nail trims, dimensions... you name it. We love that they featured our gorgeous dining chairs showing the upholstered backs in a fabric inspired by Parisian feed sacks. If you're going to dine... dine in style!

Super Saturday: A Super Success

Screen shot 2011-08-12 at 5.46.14 PMTo those of you who attended Super Saturday on July 30th... Thank you! It was a huge success. Every single piece of Pearson furniture that was donated was purchased by attendees. Proceeds from this amazing event all go to OCRF (Ovarian Cancer Research Fund). The overall event raised over $30,000! Fabulous.

Guilt free shopping for a great cause? Sensational. Thank you, everyone. See you at the next one!

As Seen In: Hospitality Style

Pearson_textiles

Fancy that. Our exclusive fabric 4549-93 was featured in the most recent issue of Hospitality Style magazine. They featured it on page 14 shown on the 1492 French Bergere chair (which we all just adore).

If you haven't seen this eye-catching fabric in person, it's worth the quick drive your local showroom to get a glimpse of it with your own eyes. It is a "deconstructed" damask that has the appearance of 5 different woven damasks that were were cut into strips and then randomly reassembled to create a new textile. Woven in Argentina, it looks rich with its indigo and ivory color palette.

The juxtaposition of this very classic chair with this fresh take on damask is really striking. A heady mix of old meets new that could easily fit well with a range of interior styles.

for more inspiration, be sure to read the rest of the fall issue of Hospitality Styles. It's packed with gorgeous products and interesting ideas.

From Dream to Dreamy: Custom Sectional

Custom_sofa_dream_dreamy
Continuing our Dream to Dreamy series... here's a decked out sectional as envisioned by the Dallas Design Group. Building upon the base frame of the 1532 sectional, the designer and client dreamed up a very customized sectional to suit the exact needs of the project. The modified piece they envisioned would include knife edge pillows and cushions, shelter arms, special brass head nail trim, and be finished with non-skirted bottom showcasing wedge feet.

We love the western detailing (perfect for so many Dallas-area homes) and the slightly edgy look of the finished piece. Those plush cushions and supple fabric make for a very inviting sectional. I imagine the client greatly enjoys use of this fantastic custom piece.

From Dream to Dreamy

462_before_afters
Just how does the process of creating a custom piece of furniture work? In truth, it all begins with an idea. Your idea. From there we document everything you (and/or your client) want to see in the newly imagined piece. This might be a modified version of an item in our product catalog, or possibly just something you've dreamed up to solve a particular design dilemma. From there it moves on to a sketch. The sketch is key. It's how our product designers ensure that we're all on the same page expecting the exact same outcome. After approval your piece goes into production. Before you know it your dream becomes a reality. Yes, it's that simple.

We thought it would be terrific to show you more of this process. By pulling back the curtain and showing you more of our artist renderings - and how precisely the finished product matches that vision - you'll see how you really can have it your way with Pearson.

In this case it's a modified version of our 462 upholstered chair. In this situation, the designer/client desired a tufted back, a box pleat skirt that kissed the floor and a plush sage green/dove grey fabric. The results speak for themselves.

Stay tuned as we continue to share more of these custom before & after comparisons. You'll enjoy them!

Ready To Meet Your Prom Queen?

Folio
This new sofa has been busy making appearances in every publication imaginable. Isn't she gorgeous? This time she was a centerfold in the 2011 Summer issue of Home Fashion Forecast.

I love her high, tufted back, her bench seating and her Mad Men attitude. There's a crisp, modern look to her that somehow marries timeless style. She receives rave reviews for the unique curve of her back and those wrap-around shelter arms. Whatever it is, the 2220 sofa is a winner in everyone's book. See her in all of her crowned glory in the summer issue.

Custom Banquette for Express Coffee & Tea

Custom

This week's featured custom piece comes from Express Coffee and Tea in Lethbridge, Alberta Canada. Looking for unique seating, they asked that we widen our 623 wing chair by adding 14" to the width. It is identical in every other way to the typical 623, except for it's dramatically widened seat. We love the concept. They didn't stop there. It was covered in our new 7031-94, an exclusive wool blend imported from Belgium with an interesting diamond pattern and a rough, slubby texture. We love the masculine, durable qualities of this fabric. It's perfect for a chic cafe. The piece was then upholstered using self gimp detailing and finished with spaced small nails making this piece a showstopper for sure.

We love the idea of using these in a pair flanking an entrance or using this as banquette seating in a long, narrow room. We are sure they'll enjoy it as much as we do!

As Seen In: Boutique Design

Fabrics It's always nice to see one of your favorites getting the praise you know it deserves. The item in question is the gorgeous crushed velvet I will be using to upholster my dining room chairs. It's not quite gray, not quite chocolate, not quite plum. I love this fabric. And apparently I'm not alone. Boutique Design, a publication that focuses on the hospitality industry, picked up on it's beauty as well in a recent edition.

One of the reasons for its appeal it it's serious durability. Perfect for busy dining areas or even hotel lobbies. Its textural depth, beauty and plush, soft hand make it a logical choice for those that need performance but are unwilling to compromise on style. See all of the fabrics they featured as well as more details on this yummy floral fabric itself.

Illuminated

Illuminated
My weaknesses are showing on this blog. I have a low resistance to pretty things. I constantly peruse sites for glittery, glimmery, shiny things that make me purr. I absolutely love all things interiors. Today's design crush? Light fixtures. be they lamps or pendant lighting... they do more than just illuminate a space, they reveal your taste level. Favorites? Mary McDonald's collection, for sure. But Arteriors Home keeps slipping in with their reasonably priced options.

The next time you go to flip the switch, consider whether or not your lighting tells the right story about your style. If not... it might be time to light up your life a bit differently.
